Junior I'm surprised that this hasn't been downloaded more. Jenks Miller is a bit of a jack of all trades in his craft, though my personal favorite is the mix of black metal vocals coupled with appalachian-style psychedelia. Check out trance-inducing Ahriman as a good example of this. Favorite track: Ahriman.

greengreenthursday What to say about this?! Is it both laid-back shoegaze peppered with black-metal vocals AND a fucked up psych-space-rock trip? I'm positively confused. That's awesome. Favorite track: Ahriman.
The Peetle

The Peetle Laid-back grooves with black metal-style vocals, coupled with elements of drone/ambient and psychedelia. The songs weave their way into your senses and hypnotise you feeling like you've been on a spirit quest. Top notch. Favorite track: Ahriman.

about

Horseback’s young but varied catalog has been remarkable in its ability to capture distinctly different subgenres of heavy music with impressive virtuosity: drone, doom, black-metal, psychedelia, post-rock, noise etc etc. With ‘Half Blood’, Horseback’s first true ‘new release’ for Relapse, the band’s mastermind Jenks Miller has brilliantly managed to throw all of those styles into one seamless album. ‘Half Blood’ naturally shifts from Americana twang to fiercely evil buzzing guitars to hypnotically meditative kraut-drone with a level of confidence that takes other bands years to master. Horseback’s ‘Half Blood’ is Neurosis on a Neil Young overdose, Earth after being locked in a room with Merzbow for weeks straight. This is an album at once immediately captivating as well as rewarding for those who treasure music that reveals new twists and turns with repeated listens.

Shaking, buzzing, and constantly moving, Horseback’s music tends to exist in its own strange world, where the distorted swagger of Neil Young’s Crazy Horse sits at a table next to the haunted dronescapes of Sunn O))). ... more
